THE protection of troubled children has been hijacked by obstructive control freaks who rely on psychological advice instead of obvious solutions, a judge says.

Senior Youth Court judge Stephen McEwen has levelled scathing criticism against the Department for Education and Child Development - formerly known as Families SA.

In a transcript obtained by the Sunday Mail, he said the department was paralysed by its reliance on a team of highly paid psychologists.

Foster child dies after concerns - Parents bury baby boy

Standing in front of a tiny white casket, a mother and father hugged each other and reluctantly said goodbye to their baby boy.

Janelle McKenzie and Winston Black buried their 10-month-old son Friday following a funeral service at the reserve hall, located about 40 kilometres north of Prince Albert. Flowers, cards and pictures of Richie Spencer Earl McKenzie-Black sat on a table near the casket at the front of the hall.

Nearby, some of Richie's clothes, blankets and books were spread across another table.

As the below article suggests, to gain experience first hand of how parents are treated by the child protection department you intend to work for is invaluable. It may mean you wish to never end up being like the other staff you will be working for.

Please email us if you are interested in acting as a support person for someone in your area today. No one will know that you have found your family through Luke's Army, we offer this service only as a way of helping to improve the child protection system.

MCFD Canada Child protection eats up $500 million yearly in B.C.

Service providers defend their agencies in face of critical youth advocate’s report B.C. MCFD child welfare expenses

More than half-a-billion dollars is spent each year in B.C. on child protection services — an important system that was harshly criticized last week by the province’s youth advocate.

The provincial budget earmarked $500 million for the 2012/13 year — and for the next two fiscal years — to pay for child-welfare costs such as social workers, foster parents and supporting troubled youth to live independently.

The federal government also gave an estimated $57 million in 2012/13 to

Community health, legal and women's centres fear plans to make adoption easier in NSW will also raise the risk of creating a new generation of children who are ''stolen'' from their parents.

Representatives of 25 organisations across the state have written to Family and Community Services Pru Goward to warn her of concerns that proposed changes to adoption laws, which may include the forced removal of some children, could

Let’s Talk About Sex With Foster Youth

Whether extended family or foster parents, there is no uniformity in training on how caretakers should address sex with youth who grow up in foster care. No one is responsible for teaching these teens about safe sex practices, healthy relationships, and the value of love.  This lack of comprehensive sexual education for youth in foster care has a significant correlation with high pregnancy rates and contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, among many other negative outcomes.

In response to this, Fostering Media Connections presents, “Let’s Talk About Sex with Foster Youth,” a series of

New York Grandparents Kinship Care Support From AARP, the lobby for older Americans

Grandparents and other non-parent relatives raising children joined government, law and social service representatives Tuesday at the Empire State Convention Center to call for more support for "kinship care."

Like foster children, "kinship children" live with relatives other than their parents because of abuse, neglect, abandonment, parental drug and alcohol abuse, incarceration and mental illness, according to AARP, the lobby for older Americans.

But the more than 150,000 New Yorkers caring for these kids — most often grandparents — face obstacles in raising them and lack the support
