Families SA nothing but glorified students stealing babies

Families SA nothing but glorified students stealing babies

I'd like to tell my sister's story, without mentioning names. I feel both Families SA and the mental health services have let her down badly.

My sister had been an untreated schizophrenic for approximately 10 years despite countless episodes of psychosis and pleas from her family to the emergency mental health line/ hospital etc.

So you can imagine what happened when she got pregnant. She had a few psychotic episodes during the pregnancy, after which (I regret to say) I contacted the child abuse hotline to ask for help because I was concerned about her and her unborn child.

One Breakdown Can Mean Losing Your Kid Forever
State governments are permanently taking hundreds of children from their parents—under a bizarre theory that they might, in the future, be too mentally ill to care for the young.

By Seth Freed Wessler, ProPublica

In August 2009, Mindi, a 25-year-old struggling new parent, experienced what doctors later concluded was a psychotic episode. She had been staying in a cousin’s spare basement room in De Soto, Kansas, while trying get on her feet after an unexpected pregnancy and an abusive relationship.

Let’s Talk About Sex With Foster Youth

Let’s Talk About Sex With Foster Youth

Whether extended family or foster parents, there is no uniformity in training on how caretakers should address sex with youth who grow up in foster care. No one is responsible for teaching these teens about safe sex practices, healthy relationships, and the value of love.  This lack of comprehensive sexual education for youth in foster care has a significant correlation with high pregnancy rates and contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, among many other negative outcomes.

In response to this, Fostering Media Connections presents, “Let’s Talk About Sex with Foster Youth,” a series of

The Boy Who Ate Himself To Death

on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 08:27

AT the age of seven he weighed almost 50 kilograms and had a body mass index roughly double what it should have been.

Despite hospital staff providing his parents with a weight management plan, the boy put on another six kilograms in the six weeks after he left John Hunter Children's Hospital and two years later he was dead due to complications from obesity.

Newcastle Coroners Court is examining the death, including the role his parents, the Department of Family and Community Services and the NSW Department of Education and Training may have played.

The Newcastle boy was rushed to John

Corporate Child Abuse: The Unseen Global Epidemic

Corporate Child Abuse: The Unseen Global Epidemic

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul”, Nelson Mandela says, “than the way in which it treats its children”.

Who would disagree?

Yet today children may be assaulted, diseased, or killed by pervasive corporate drugs, junk-foods and beverages, perverted by mindless violence in multiple modes, deployed as dead-end labour with no benefits, and then dumped into a corporate future of debt enslavement and meaningless work. How could this increasing systematic abuse be publicly licensed at every level?

Report: Majority of Children Remain at Home after Maltreatment Investigation

Report: Majority of Children Remain at Home after Maltreatment Investigation

Children who remain in the home after maltreatment investigation may require mental and developmental health interventions

Note: This means that much of the time it is unnecessary to remove children, obviously it is much more traumatic to leave a loving home and move from foster home to foster home. Governments should be concentrating on supporting the family unit instead of feeding the child stealing machine, making all involved filthy rich while the people in need continue to go without.

CPS must do more than yank kids from parents

5 ideas to improve CPS

Other states have answers: Arizona is experiencing significantly higher Child Protective Services caseloads when most other states are seeing decreases, at a huge cost to state budgets and our future. Why? Because, unlike its peers, Arizona focuses most of its resources on dealing with families in crisis, not preventing them from getting into crisis. It has cut millions of dollars from child-care, rent-assistance, job training, domestic-violence and mental-health programs.

That’s a big deal, considering that two-thirds of child-abuse cases area a result of neglect.

AMHPs 'unnecessarily' detaining people under Mental Health Act due to bed shortage

Health Committee calls for urgent investigation after hearing that pressures on inpatient places means 'being detained is ticket to getting a bed' in some areas.

People are being “unnecessarily” detained under the Mental Health Act as professionals struggle to find alternative ways of securing increasingly scarce psychiatric bed places for patients in need of hospital care, MPs have warned.

Patients are “being sectioned unnecessarily” by AMHPs and clinicians as a means of securing treatment as a shortage of

Foster Kids Get More Psychiatric Drugs

Friday, May 24, 2013

A GOVERNMENT Accountability Report released this Thursday showed America’s foster children being prescribed powerful psychotropic drugs, at doses beyond what the Food and Drug Administration has approved. At a congressional hearing the same day, Thursday saw lawmakers discussing both the problems and possible solutions.

Obviously, those in foster care are more likely to have had elements of abuse or traumatic experiences during their upbringing, thus they are more likely to end up on medication, especially once they are labeled as
