Rates of abused and neglected children on the rise in Australia: report

Updated Fri 25 Oct 2013, 4:59pm AEDT

Note: Freya Peterson is a prime example of a journalist who is so far up the ass of the Minister for FACS NSW Pru Goward she has lost sight of reality. I can write whatever crap I want to, but to glamorise the stealing of a whole generation like miss Freya Peterson has done in the following article makes her no more than a child stealer herself. At least she has given the figures, they don't bullshit.

What we really want to see is how many children died while

WA Supreme Court dismisses Stolen Generation compensation claim launched by Collard family

A West Australian family that took the State Government to court in a Stolen Generations test case has lost its bid for compensation.

Donald and Sylvia Collard had eight children removed from their care in the 1950s and 60s.

The children were split up and placed in state care, during which time some of them allege they were sexually abused.

The Collards launched legal action in the West Australian Supreme Court in the hope of receiving compensation for the ongoing impact the separation has had on their lives.

However, today Justice Janine Pritchard dismissed the case.

In her 410-page judgement,

How it feels when a child on your social work team’s caseload dies

For all Munro’s attempts to erase the social work blame culture, we’re still a profession dominated by it, writes an anonymous social worker

Note: I haven't even read this yet, but I can see where it is going... "Blame Culture." You stole the child, you degraded the parent and blatantly called them a failure as a parent, the greatest insult anyone could unleash upon a loving parent possible. You personally drag the child from his home to the house of some stranger, where you turn your back on him leaving him there alone and confused.

You are not there to watch over them or to check on them,

Child Protection - Reasonable Doubt creating throwaway children

Child Protection - Reasonable Doubt creating throwaway children

Last week, I walked into the courthouse and I saw a kid in handcuffs with two sheriffs standing near him. I was surprised for two reasons.

One, it is not common to see anyone walking through a courthouse hallway in handcuffs. Courthouses are designed with hallways/entrances/cells/offices that the public never sees, so as to allow incarcerated people to be transferred in privacy and some dignity to cells and the courtroom.

Two, children and youth are not often found in the courthouse unaccompanied by parents.

DCS will no longer remove kids from homes without a hearing

Doug Dimond, the Department of Children's Services' chief legal counsel, said he believes caseworkers can no longer remove a child from a home without a formal court hearing unless the situation meets a narrow definition of 'exigent circumstances' — defined as an immediate, identifiable risk of harm that is 'serious, immediate, physical or specific.'

Critics say agency is being 'overly cautious' after rulings

Late on a warm August evening in 2008, Robert Andrews was standing in his yard when three caseworkers with the Department of Children’s Services and two Hickman County deputies drove

Alicia Beltran, 28, of Jackson, Wisc., went to a prenatal visit -- and ended up in handcuffs.

Shackled and pregnant: Wis. case challenges 'fetal protection' law

When Alicia Beltran was 12 weeks pregnant, she took herself to a health clinic about a mile from her home in Jackson, Wis., for a prenatal checkup. But what started as a routine visit ended with Beltran eventually handcuffed and shackled in government custody – and at the center of a first-of-its-kind federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a state’s fetal protection law.

On July 2, Beltran, 28, met with a physician’s

Two child welfare workers lose jobs in toddler's death investigation

A child welfare case manager and supervisor were fired Thursday after a case they handled ended in the homicide of an east Lee County 3-year-old. This week, three of Michael McMullen’s caregivers were arrested on manslaughter charges.

Investigators say the boy spent four hours tightly wrapped in a blanket in a bizarre form of punishment.

Donella Trainor, Douglas Garrigus and Gale Watkins have all been charged with manslaughter in the death of three-year-old Michael Lee McMullen.
