Vicki Reimann: Suspected by many to be a corrupt DoCS Worker

Hi Michael
I would like to say A big thankyou for your website. I was once a Caseworker in the Atherton Office of Communitites. I left because I was bullied myself and I know of many other caseworkers who have left of the same reason. Atherton Office has a huge turn over of staff and the staff they have now are NOT QUALIFIED to be making life changing choices for these families.

Jonas, a child with Down's syndrome, 'visibly regressed’ and eventually died after he was handed over to foster carers

Lord Justice Munby, recently promoted to be head of our family courts, announced again last week that he is determined to meet the tidal wave of criticism being directed at the system

It is four years since I began regularly reporting here on the most disturbing story I have covered in all my decades as a journalist – the way our “child protection” system has been allowed, by the secrecy imposed by the courts on all its workings, to go so horrifically off the rails.

Foster Carer's Fairy Tail - Nothing is bigger in fostering than Christmas

Foster Carer's Fairy Tail - Nothing is bigger in fostering than Christmas

Note: Another one of these stories where child protection is the answer to all the world's problems, full of loving case workers and even more impeccable foster carers.

I don't mean to harp on with my own story, but I know what my Lukey went through because of the monsters who stole him, the same ones who placed him in a terrifying situation where he would quickly die, and I know about the foster carer who knew he had received a serious knock on the head, and refused to check on him. A knock on the head so bad it fractured his skull and gave him bleeding on the brain.

FACS NSW - Staff crisis leaves foster children in limbo

Up to 60 foster children and their carers have been left in limbo after a caseworker staffing crisis at a Family and Community Services centre in northern NSW.

The manager of out-of-home care at the Ballina community services centre has not been replaced after going on urgent leave and a caseworker responsible for 36 foster children moved to a new role last month with no substitute found.

Barbara Michel, a co-ordinator with foster care support group Connecting Carers, described the office as a ''ghost town''.

The 60 children are being transferred from the care of the Department of Family and

FACS boss reveals 500 NSW foster carers are being investigated over alleged inappropriate behaviour

The New South Wales Family and Community Services department (FACS) has revealed around 500 foster carers are being investigated for inappropriate behaviour.

The head of the department Michael Coutts-Trotter says 36 investigators are working full-time to clear the backlog and he hopes that will occur by the end of the year.

It has been revealed a man accused of sexually inappropriate behaviour was allowed to continue fostering children and later confessed to raping a child in his care.

Mr Coutts-Trotter says about half of the allegations under investigation are serious but in many other cases it

Boy gets 9 foster homes in 3 weeks - NZ Child Youth Family CYF

A Christchurch principal is demanding to know why a boy has bounced between nine different Child Youth and Family foster homes in three weeks.

Another "lost soul", despite no longer being a pupil of the decile-two Linwood Avenue School, shows up on the school's doorstep every morning - even outside of school hours - because it is the only connection he knows.

Child Youth and Family (CYF) is blaming a decrease in the number of carers and foster homes for children with high needs in Christchurch since the quakes.

So FSA workers are the best carers according to this report the very best. Do you think some uni student straight out of college is really going to be the answer. INCREASING numbers of at-risk children are being taken from their parents and placed in out-of-home care - but more are going to foster homes and fewer are being placed in emergency motel accommodation.

Foster care agencies fear system will collapse as numbers of willing families decline

on Thu, 07/11/2013 - 00:17

Agencies say the foster care system is in crisis and could collapse within five years unless it undergoes a dramatic overhaul.

Non-government foster care agencies have told Lateline that the number of people wanting to take in foster children has declined in recent years, as has support for them.

Others say fostering is not the solution and are calling for the sensitive issue of adopting out children to be put back on the agenda.

Sandie de Wolf from Berry Street, a non-government organisation that has been running for 130 years, says the pressure on the system is enormous.

State care changes to save South Australia $20 million annually

Hundreds more staff will be recruited for Families SA to help care for South Australia's most vulnerable children.

Over three years, the Government will recruit 360 full-time staff, on three-year contracts, to replace casual carers.

SA Child Development Minister Jennifer Rankine said the Government had built new housing for caring for young people for whom foster care was not an option.

"This initiative phases out the need to use motel rooms to accommodate them and commercial carers to care for them," she said.

Ms Rankine said the change would save $20 million annually by phasing out use
