Children's Court of Victoria-Drugs court pilot puts children first

on Sun, 11/03/2013 - 17:44

The Children's Court of Victoria will trial an Australian-first family drug court next year, as part of a new approach to reduce instances of children being taken into foster or state care.

The court will preside over a ''holistic approach'' to child protection matters involving one or more parents with a substance abuse issue.

If reuniting a family is not possible, the court will aim to make permanent changes to living conditions quicker, in most cases within 12 months.

The three-year trial will initially be concerned with parents aged under 21 who have at least one child aged under

Foster Care Lawsuit-Jackson MISSISSIPPI DHS

on Sat, 11/02/2013 - 23:24

Jackson, MS -(WLBT) - A national group asked a federal judge to appoint someone else to take over Mississippi's foster care system. They also wanted the Division of Family and Children's Services for the Department of Human Services held in contempt of court. It all goes back to a lawsuit filed in 2005 and a settlement of the case in 2007.

In 2005 Children's Rights, a national advocacy group cited the case of 12-year-old Ashley Andrews of Pearl River County. She was tortured and killed.

Story of a Mum and her son - fighting DHS who took my boy

Here is my story. Now I know some people who read this will judge me. I judge myself for two years I had to look at my sons empty cot I spent many hours just sitting in his room holding his favorite teddy just crying.

It all started when I was 12 and went into foster care.I grew up in what they call a residential unit, a place for unwanted kids. My up bringing there was hell. I got beaten up every day by the kids n carers.

Fast forward 5 years DHS kicked me out. I fell pregnant and they got involved, their reason for getting involved... I had no parents so I didn't know how to be a parent.

Deaf mothers sues Department of Human Services after baby dies from SIDS

A DEAF mum who says her newborn daughter died because she was forced to co-sleep with her is suing the Department of Human Services.

The heartbroken mother, who can't be named for legal reasons, carries her baby's ashes with her as a reminder of her "little angel".

Her baby was just seven weeks old when she died from SIDS several years ago.

The mother told the Herald Sun the memory of waking up next to her dead child would haunt her for the rest of her life.

"Her death devastated us beyond comprehension. She was an angel, too perfect for this world," she said.

She said she had to

on Tue, 12/25/2012 - 05:06
State law in oregon is if you want to appeal *[or review for error]* a “threat of harm” disposition that was founded you must do it within 30 days. my question is there any way to appeal/ file for a review of that disposition after the thirty days? it has been over 6 months.. the person founded is not the parent if that makes a difference I dunno. I desperately need help finding the answer to this!
my answer is not found in oregon family service rule 413 -010-0745 or oregon law ors 418.005. many thanks for any responses.

Indianola shooting highlights dangers social workers face in the field

on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 12:19

Note: Try stealing babies in other countries and see how many of them would be shot...

smithSundi Smith arrived at a rural Indianola home last week to check on children’s welfare. Her own welfare quickly became the issue.

The 26-year-old Iowa Department of Human Services caseworker ended up fleeing for her life when Nicholas Paul Augustine, 32, allegedly fired a shot at her and then chased her car into Indianola, where authorities stopped and arrested Augustine on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges.

They were just suspicious of me from the beginning - Iowa Department of Human Services

on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 08:02

When Victor Rodgers heard that his baby had been born, he headed to the hospital.
Even though he and the child’s mother weren’t together anymore, he planned on being an involved dad.

It was February 2009 — five weeks before her due date — but his ex’s new boyfriend had beaten her so badly that doctors had to deliver the baby. That’s how the Iowa Department of Human Services got involved.

Rodgers wanted to take his daughter home with him, but the DHS worker said he would have to go through the agency. She placed the baby with a foster family.

It took three months for DHS to confirm Rodgers’
